An overview of the campaigns submitted and approved for funding in 2023
Analysis of European agri-food promotion programmes submitted in 2023: strategic insights for 2024 proposals
In the previous call, the European Commission selected 68 out of the 119 programmes presented for funding. What insights can we gather for this year’s call for proposals?
Agri-food promotion programmes inside and outside the EU
Each year, the European Commission launches a call for proposals to promote agri-food products within the EU and worldwide. This year, a total of €176 million is allocated.
So, to figure out what kind of agri-food promotion programme to submit, we've gathered key data from the previous call. This gives us the clues on which proposals are more likely to be eligible.
Agri-food promotion programmes selected for EU funding
In 2023, the European Commission allocated €185 million to promote agri-food products. In response to this call, 119 proposals from 26 different countries were submitted.
Out of these, 68 proposals were approved for funding. What's intriguing is that, with an initial budget of €185 million, only €143 million were granted, leaving around €30 million unspent.
- Simple programmes - Total granted: €88.7 million
These are programmes presented by organizations from the same European country: 50 of the 98 proposals submitted were approved.
- Multi programmes -Total granted: €58.7 million
These are programmes presented by organizations from different European countries: 18 of the 18 proposals submitted were approved.
So, the selected 68 campaigns received €143 million to promote sustainable and high-quality EU farm products.

- It's noteworthy that only 15 out of the 27 EU countries submitted requests. Some countries did not submit any proposals.
- Italy stands out as the leading country in programme applications: 42 in 2023.
Multi agri-food promotion programmes
- Tend to have fewer proposals submitted.
- 100% approval rate in 2023: 18 out of 18 proposals.
- €30 million remain unallocated.
- Only 6 countries applied: Greece, France, Italy, Lithuania, Spain and Germany.
- 9 of the approved programmes are targeted towards third countries, while the other 9 are focused on the internal market.
European co-funding opportunities for agri-food promotion programmes in 2024
At Atlas Marketing Studio, we specialize in multi-lateral agri-food promotion programmes, making it an excellent option for your agri-food organization to present agri-food programmes in third countries.
We highly recommend opting for multi programmes as they face less competition and often have unallocated budgets. Promoting your products in markets beyond the EU is a strategic move.
Currently, we are implementing agri-food promotion programmes as the Implementing Body in third countries like: UAE, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong.
